Community Engagement with help from Bees

The East Gippsland Bee Club was formed when a local commercial bee keeper indicated that he wanted to share his knowledge and experience. Far East Victoria Landcare, recognising the value of mentoring and the level of local interest in bee keeping supported the beginnings of a Bee Club. The group meets once a month with hands-on workshops, and Q & A mentoring sessions and Far East Victoria Landcare continue as the co-ordinator of the group.  The bee keeping mentors have connections to a range of people and resources through strong ties with the Gippsland Apiarist Association of which the East Gippsland Bee Club is now a sub-group.

The East Gippsland Bee Club welcomes anyone to attend and have people come from as far as Mallacoota and Maffra. There are commonly 25 or more people at their workshops in Orbost.  Information and advertising is shared through their Facebook page and through regular articles in the local East Gippsland Newspapers.
