Foraging Fine Fare for a Feast

An idea to captivate the imagination, to address the issue of pest plants and animals and to engage the community in all things landcare !

What single event might tick our Community Engagement boxes ??

  • The group needs something really imaginative to do, something "outside the square".
  • The group needs to do more to raise awareness amoungst our community on the issue of weeds and pest animals.
  • The group needs to engage more with our community - our neighbours and our schools. We need something of common interest and FUN !

Well, the Neerim & District Landcare Group's Community Engagement Officer, Sandra McPhee, came up with the idea for the group, with assistance from the local branch of the CWA, to host a Fine Feast of Foraged Food !

The idea is to create an evening's dinner event using ingredients foraged from the local environment, focussing on using weeds and pest animals such as rabbit, hare and deer (all of which abound in our district !). Native ingredients (the 'good guys' such as Mountain Pepper, Warrigal Greens and Wattleseed pancakes) will complement the feast.

The event, not yet held (as at January 2016), is attracting an enormous amount of interest throughout the local community (landcarers, non-landcarers and townies alike), and judging by the response, we think its a brilliant idea !
